This year, the Get Ready GEAR UP Minnesota program has provided scholarship offers to 237 students, committing up to $450,000 through no-cost extension funds. A second round of awards, totaling an additional $400,000 from the new grant budget, is expected to be announced in July.
Scholarship recipients receive a one-time award of $1,500 for those attending an accredited Minnesota 2-year college or certification program, and $2,500 for those enrolled in a 4-year institution. These scholarships are designed to support students as they take their next steps toward postsecondary education.
While there was no central scholarship ceremony this year, many partner schools – including Fridley, Harding, Brooklyn Center, Como, Hiawatha, Apollo, and Tech – hosted senior recognition events, where school leaders celebrated students and presented the scholarships in person.
The continued impact of the Get Ready GEAR UP Minnesota program remains clear. Through these scholarships, the program reaffirms its commitment to equity in education and expanding opportunity for students across the state.
